Who pays and will I get financial help?
If you require care services and require assistance from Social Services you may be expected
to contribute towards the fees. The amount you have to pay will be determined by social services following
their financial assessment. Your contribution is usually paid direct to social services.
If you have been assessed as nursing needs, your primary care trust (PCT) will pay for the nursing
intervention that is required, this is a set fee and will be paid directly to the provider.
If you have been assessed as "Continuing Care", your PCT will pay the full fees and you will not
be required to contribute to your fees. The fees will be paid directly to the care provider.
What if I do not need financial help?
If your financial status places you above the assisted funding threshold, you should still ask
social services and your PCT to carry out an assessment of need. This will provide you with an independent
assessment of your needs and the information will assist you to find a suitable care provider. The local authorities will
also then be aware of your situation and should you require assistance from them in the future, the process
should be easier and smoother.
If you have been assessed as "Continuing Care", your PCT will pay the full fees and you will not be
required to contribute to your fees. The fees will be paid directly to the care provider.
